What is the NUX Mighty Bass 50BT?
The Mighty Bass 50BT is a small bass amplifier manufactured by NUX. Despite its compact size, the amp delivers 50 watts of power, supports third-party impulse responses, and serves as a portable gigging solution for small gigs as well.
First Impressions
Although small, this amp isn’t exactly lightweight: at 7.2 kilos, it has a convincing heft that gives you hope the sound will be as solid as the build. Having reviewed dozens of NUX products, I can say this amp continues their lineage of well-built gear. Everything about it feels sturdy, and I wouldn’t hesitate to take it to a band rehearsal or a gig.
What’s it like to use?
The Mighty Bass 50BT follows a familiar NUX design pattern: everything is well thought out, with a logical control layout and practical features. Most functions can be managed via the physical controls on the amp, but tasks like swapping impulse responses or using the built-in drum machine require either the mobile or desktop app.
Compared to some other NUX modelers I’ve tried, the Mighty Bass 50BT feels almost too simple to use, offering just a few amplifier models, drive pedals, and modulation effects. However, the included effects sound great, and the option to swap impulse responses ensures the amp is versatile enough to meet most bass players’ needs.
Is the NUX Mighty Bass 50BT good?
I love the simplicity of this amp. Simple doesn’t mean bad, though—the build quality is fantastic, and I felt confident bringing it to a band rehearsal where it performed exceptionally well. My bandmates and I were blown away by how loud it got with the volume at just 12 o’clock.
If you’re after a small bass amp solution with a built-in kickstand (!), this is the one to get. The only issue I encountered was the XLR output, which seemed to send an overly hot signal. Luckily, lowering the impulse response volume in the editor software resolved the problem.
Overall, I’m really impressed with this small but mighty amp.
